Traditional Bigs Volunteer » Traditional Bigs
Our Community based Program, serving children ages 6-14, is what most people think of when they hear "Big Brothers Big Sisters". Volunteers spend several hours, two to four times a month with their Little, enjoying activities that they both enjoy!!! The focus of BBBS is the one to one friendship that develops between the child and adult, based on mutual respect and trust. Big Brothers are matched with Little Brothers, and Big Sisters with Little Sisters ages 6-14. Married couples can also participate together as part of a Couple's Match.
Bigs and Littles do lots of different things when they get together. Some matches enjoy going to the park, walking the dog, going fishing, doing arts and crafts or making dinner together. The possibilities are endless. Whatever you enjoy doing becomes even more fun when you're seeing it through a child's eyes. To get you started, we have a list of activity ideas here.
Commitment Level: 1 year, at least 2 hours, 2-4 times a month

Enrollment Process |
 |
- Volunteer Interview: This is a great opportunity to learn more about the program, ask any questions you may have and talk about your interests. Don't forget your auto insurance and driver's license! Click here to RSVP
- Auto Insurance: Bring your auto insurance card with you to interview and we will make a copy to place in your file.
- Background Check: We will perform a background check at no cost to you.
- Three References: We will contact the three references that you give us.
- Matching Process: Once you have completed the enrollment process, your file will be reviewed. If you have been accepted, we will then contact you to tell you about a potential Little. You are under no obligation to accept the child the agency proposes to you. If you accept, we will contact the Little and the Parent to tell them about you. When all parties agree, we will schedule a match meeting between you, the parent, the child and the Case Manager. At that meeting there is some paperwork to sign; groundrules, boundaries, expectations, and goals will be discussed. At this point, you and your Little are officially "matched" and can begin to build a friendship that could last a lifetime!!!
