Becoming a Little
Child Requirements & Commitments |
- Our programs are open to children between the ages of 6 and 14.
- To become a "Little", the child must be willing and able to establish and maintain a mentoring relationship with a caring "Big".
Parent Requirements & Commitments |
- Parental support of the mentoring relationship has a direct impact on the success of the match. For this reason, we ask the parent to maintain monthly contact with the Case Manager for the duration of the match.
- We ask the parent to make a one year commitment to the match.
Parents are requested to help pay for child's activity expenses where possible or to encourage the match to do low-cost activities.
The Matching Process |
- Fill out the online "Little" application, or call our office for an appointment
- There is no guarantee your child will be matched. We cannot predict how soon we can match a child because we are a volunteer-driven agency.
- We do not match on a first-come first-served basis. We match according to a child's compatibility with a mentor. We take the parent's and child's preferences into account to make the best match possible for the child and volunteer.
- The Case Manager will contact the parent when we have a potential match. A match meeting is scheduled at our office with the parent, child, mentor and case manager to discuss expectations and goals and sign the necessary paperwork to officially open the match.
